A Poem: In love & War
Armor is for when you have something to lose
So I keep mine up in hope of protection
From the moments that my heart begins to race
and my words begin to slur
as if I’m drunk off you
Instead of the bottles of wine
I keep my armor up so when you ask me questions
I just look at you and smile
because I refuse to give you
the hidden parts of me
In case you decide to take it all
I keep my armor up so when you say ‘I love you’
I don’t really feel it
I keep my armor up
because every time I get too close
I lose myself in you
and that’s one blow that
I'm not willing to take.
So I keep mine up in hope of protection
From the moments that my heart begins to race
and my words begin to slur
as if I’m drunk off you
Instead of the bottles of wine
I keep my armor up so when you ask me questions
I just look at you and smile
because I refuse to give you
the hidden parts of me
In case you decide to take it all
I keep my armor up so when you say ‘I love you’
I don’t really feel it
I keep my armor up
because every time I get too close
I lose myself in you
and that’s one blow that
I'm not willing to take.
