Icon Of The Week: Priscilla Ann Presely

priscilla presley         Priscilla Ann Presley born in Brooklyn is an actress and business mogul first known and recognized for her Hollywood relationship with Elvis Presley. At 74 years old she has been a fashion icon throughout the years, best known for her jet black hair and eyeliner, she is a trendsetter none the less. At the young age of just 14, Priscilla 's styles were heavily influenced by Elvis who had controlled many aspects of her life, from telling her what to wear to controlling what she talked about with the other girlfriends of band members. At the age of 27, she decided to leave Elvis to start living her own life. There is nothing more heartbreaking than getting stuck living someone else's life. Still staying close friends with Elvis she was able to find out who she was as a person and develop her own life and style.

One look that Queen Priscilla was always keen on pulling off was her dramatic black eyeliner. Eyeliners soul purpose is to bring attention to the eyes and make your eyelashes look fuller. I for one put in eyeliner almost every single day. The way you put on eyeliner can change your eye shape and draw more attention to them. Priscilla definitely knew what she was doing with this move. Her big doe eyes were always surrounded by black to make her look even more angelic. Although the eyeliner definitely worked in her favor, Priscilla in a recent interview with Loose Women stated, "I always had a little bit of makeup: He never wanted to see me dressed, he wanted to see the end result." Elvis never wanted to see Priscilla without makeup, so she constantly was wearing some type of makeup. Imagine wanting to take off the makeup you had worn all day on only to wash it off and put a new face right back on.

You know they say, "The higher the hair the closer you are to heaven"? Ms.Presley with the optima of that saying. She made moves with her high hair. She took the illusion of being tall to an entirely new level. Who needs heels when you have hair? Her teased to perfection bouffant exuded the classic '50s style.
priscilla presleyAlong with her black winged eyeliner came with her jet-black hair that would make any blonde girl turnover to the dark side. Again this iconic statement was very much influenced by Elvis. Elvis wanted Priscilla to dye her hair the raven shade in order for her to match him, and for them to look more appealing next to each other. "He did want me to dye my hair black when I was young so we could look a little bit alike." Elvis had control over the way Priscilla looked almost like a Kim and Kanye situation.  With Elvis constantly being in the spotlight he wanted everyone and everything that surrounded him to be perfect and visually pleasing. Priscilla did often listen to Elvis but she also expressed her own style in pieces that she would wear such has her little white dress.
Priscilla Presley     Put your little black dress to the side and pull out your sexy little white one. Priscilla can do no wrong in a white dress. She traded in the little black dresses fora white one, creating a statement within itself. From her moment in a two-piece fringe to her statement in satin. She shows a girl you can leave your black dress on the hanger and step out in something that isn't so typical. if you're doing dinner with friends or just taking the town there is nothing a white dress can't do. You can add pops of color with jewelry, bags, or shoes, or just have the white dress be its own statement. Fringe doesn't just have to be for festival season, you can make it work year round. No into the fringe country feel? Play on the classic baby doll look and keep the dress super simple.

priscilla presley         I'm all for getting dressed up and keeping up the illusion that every girl looks perfect always, but in actuality, that isn't very realistic and Ms. Presely defiantly knew how to rock a casual day. So ladies and Gents, I present to you the denim jumpsuit. The jumpsuit is one f the most underrated items of clothing and is slowly making a comeback. The jumpsuit is a major #lazygirllifehack. It can be an easy go-to outfit for going to class or going to the airport. Add a belt and a hat and you are ready to go. Priscilla could not have looked better in a light blue, cinched waist denim jumpsuit. She made this street style look, look incredibly effortless.

Priscilla now rocks deep red hair with black tips and is still continuing to kill the fashion game. One of my absolute favorite quotes by her is, "I don't want to be someone's entertainment" and I love this quote because it's a reminder that you were not meant to be on this earth to please the people around you, to make them laugh or smile. Priscilla showed people that sometimes you need to leave someone you love in order to find yourself.  Ms. Presely isn't just iconic because of what she wore but she's also iconic for what she stood for. She stood for herself and that's something so many people don't do.
